Is this really news? The statue was offered to Grantham some years ago, and was declined (I understand) on the advice of the police who said it would become a target for Irish, far left and anarchist terrorists who would try to blow it up. This has got nothing to do with Margaret Thatcher's popularity in Grantham and has everything to do with the nature of terrorism in society.
Margaret Thatcher is hated by a minority of people, but she is loved by a much larger number.
