Earlier this week Coalition Minister Vince Cable was called a socialist.
As socialism is the nationalisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange he cannot by any stretch of the imagination be a socialist.
With the abandonment of Clause IV the Labour Party gave up the reason for their existence and they have yet to find a new role (currently their economic policy seems to be "we would be less Tory than the Tories").
I am not by any means a socialist, but I would like to see a socialist Labour Party - and as an example, arguing for nationalisation of the railways (not as an economic measure but as a way of providing full employment for the long-term unemployed).
Unfortunately once the Labour Party gets into power it does not concentrate on socialising the economy - instead it brings in a whole slew of spiteful bullying ideological garbage that makes them intolerable to most normal people (health & safety gone mad, political correctness gone mad, calling people "bigots" because they are worried about their grandchildren, putting spy-chips in dustbins, waging pointless foreign wars, "constitutional" reform of institutions that were not in need of reform etc).
