All the hawthorn trees had simultaneously flowered

On the drive to work dull grey overcast skies.

In the office we felt the temperatures rising so that the windows had to be opened and the blinds drawn down and the fans switched on.

And on the drive home all the hawthorn trees had simultaneously flowered earlier in the afternoon so that the countryside was dazzlingly beautiful with white may blossom (referring to the May tree, not the month of May).

I stopped in a lane to look more closely at one of the hawthorn trees.  The white flowers glistened in the early evening sunlight.  Delicate honey smell of the blossom.

At my feet the flat green fields stretched to the horizon.
