Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is due to make a speech later today calling for more social mobility.
Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove has called the currently prevalence of privileged people in public institutions "morally indefensible".
Labour Leader Ed Miliband has said "Tackling social mobility is a huge mountain to climb".
The three main political parties are important institutions within the British establishment. They each have the power to immediately open their candidates lists up to non-privileged people. And this does not mean selecting one or two exotic tokens from minorities and saying "there, we've done our bit" (and when you look at those exotic tokens you usually find they come from a privileged background anyway).
I would like to see really radical measures such as a ten-year ban on selection of candidates with an Oxbridge background (given the ridiculously overwhelming representation of Oxbridge among current MPs).
But who am I to voice an opinion?
