Dateline London discussed the new appointments to the House of Lords earlier today.

When the presentation of debutantes at Buckingham Palace was ended in 1958 it was because many young girls being presented in the 1950s were known not to be virgins, and Princess Margaret is supposed to have said "...every tart in London is being presented".

Have we now reached the stage in our national and social development when every political pimp and tart in London is being nominated to the House of Lords?
