Nick Clegg (Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Liberal-Democrat Party) says today that UKIP ""appeals to people who want a better yesterday. I want a better tomorrow."
It is not my role to defend UKIP.
But can there be anything more backward looking than the European Union - a 1970s power bloc that has expanded but has not essentially changed to adapt to the modern world?
Tired, bloated, undemocratic, secretive, sclerotic, corrupt.
Oh and has an hidebound economy that squats like Fuseli's incubus on the hearts of young people all over Europe.
