Recently I was in Piccadilly and walked along New Bond Street to look at the exterior of Number 33 (the Richard Green art gallery).
It is a wonderful building, simultaneously classical and completely modern. You can tell this is the work of a great architect (George Saumarez Smith). In a constrained site the architect has worked a minor miracle - classicism stripped to fundamentals, the detailing so delicate it seems evanescent (the shadowing, the sketched capitals, the line of key ornamentation etc).
The sculpture between the first and second floors is by Alexander Stoddart and illustrates Homer's Odyssey.
This is a very precious building.
Just knowing it exists makes me feel happy.
