Bonnie Greer is trying to frighten people by implying that if the United Kingdom leaves the EU the Americans will "downgrade the special relationship" (sic).
This is piffle from Ms Greer.
She knows that Barack Obama has already tried to downgrade the "special relationship" (which is not special at all and entirely one-sided in favour of the Americans).
Remember the bust of Winston Churchill insulting sent back?
Remember the humiliating five minute "pool spray" grudgingly given to Gordon Brown? (I laughed out loud at that one as he had it coming, but it was still another insult to the United Kingdom).
Remember the policy decision to turn away from tired old European allies and get new buddies in the Far East?
Let the Americans "downgrade the special relationship" if they wish. In fact, let us throw the "special relationship" back in the face of the Obama administration. Let us publicly and unmistakeably insult the Obama administration in the same way that they have insulted us.
And why we are on the subject, what is all the guff we endlessly hear about Henry Kissinger only wanting one number to call when developing a joint American-European foreign policy position?
Was Henry Kissinger so lazy that that he couldn't be bothered to make more than one 'phone call?
Or was Mr Kissinger afraid of losing his address book containing the two or three European 'phone numbers he needed to ring? (there are only two or three numbers, as most European countries do not have much in the way of armed forces - the Dutch have no tanks, the Danes have no submarines etc).
Or perhaps Mr Kissinger became confused when he had to hold more than one conversation in his mind?
Enough of all this nonsense.
