There was a wave of euphoria, relayed across the media, following the announcement from Singapore that London is to host the 2012 Olympic Games. Even the Prime Minister (not noted for his love of the capital, especially since Ken Livingstone became Mayor) described London as the greatest city on earth. Everyone I have spoken to this afternoon (even strangers ringing up to sell advertising space) has said they are pleased with the news.
