Ancient Olympic medals were of silver, not gold, and the athletes competed for glory rather than material gain. Even today the Corinthian ethos survives in most sports in the United Kingdom, although commercialisation is widespread.

I wonder if these come in different sizes. Or is it simply bent out of shape to fit the winner's head? Or do they take wreath measurements before every award ceremony and get these custom-made?
I wonder how people actually wear these and get them to balance!
I think they sort of slip on like a hair band - gold is fairly soft and pliable. They would wear the leafy bit at the front.
