England is at the "centre" of the "centre" by almost any definition you wish to apply (financial, linguistic, diplomatic etc) and yet of all the thousands of communities that exist, the majority are peripheral.
The photographer Simon Marsden explained: imagine a car speeding through a forest with the headlights on and the windows closed. That is how most of us life our lives. But then imagine slowing down and switching off the headlights and winding the windows down. Immediately you are in a different world. Then imagine stopping the car and getting out. You will then become aware of an entirely parallel existence coming alive to you - natural, spiritual, ancient.
