Above: actress Jane Horrocks is in trouble for calling Tesco shoppers chavs in a recent Radio Times interview. As a throwaway comment it seems to have offended all sorts of people - Tesco shoppers who do not want to be called chavs; socio-economic groups D and E who do not want to be called chavs; media commentators who do not want to see social groups vilified. Surely Jane Horrocks must have realised that it was a stupid thing to have said.
It will be interesting to see if the remark has any effect upon Tescos' sales (it is in the Gerald Ratner league of crassness).
Also whether Sky1 will go ahead with the new comedy, which is already in the broadcasting schedules.

Just been to Tesco..
Jane was being quite conservative I think. She didn't mention the people that smell, the rudeness, the 8 year old running around shouting "oi gemma, what the **** are you doing!!??!!" The parents of said child, I wouldn't even like to mention the way they "control" their child here.
Even leaving doesn't make you feel more comfortable with the gang of the smack heads sitting by the doors watching for people to rob, with their dogs (no need to guess the breed - staffies) running around defecating and urinating on what they please... Chavs? I think the bar has been set a little high there.
Do these people create society, or does society create these people?
If individuals smell they do not care about personal hygiene, and we need to ask why. If they are rude they do not care about other people, and again we need to ask why. If their children use offensive language they are not really (at the age of eight) to blame - their parents have not brought them up correctly and again we need to ask why. If there are drug-induced petty criminals with dogs out of control yet again the question needs to be asked why.
This is not a poor country. This is a country ABSOLUTELY STUFFED with state-employed professionals paid high salaries and pensions and who have the job of regulating society. This reliance on state professionals has completely failed, mainly because most of them just take the money and do very little to influence the people they are responsible for.
Teachers, social workers, the police etc cannot replace the institution of the family.
The institution of the family has been trashed by meddling politicians - divorce, abortion, "permissiveness" etc.
You can't have an anything-goes society and not have the kind of social breakdown you describe.
The left actively wants this social breakdown as they think that they can use it as an opportunity to rebuild society on socialist lines.
And they are not doing too badly!
