Interesting article in The Economist recently saying that piracy is not necessarily bad, and can sometimes lead to brands establishing market share (which companies can then exploit with legitimate products).

The Economist is the most worthwhile news magazine you can buy. It will tell you what is really happening in the world. The style is understated, and unsensational.
The magazine was founded in 1843. Ownership of the publication is complex (half is owned by Pearson). Editor of The Economist is John Micklethwaite.
The Bagehot column is always worth reading. The book reviews are exceptional. The obituary (one per issue) is often a superlative mini-biography.

The magazine is based in St James’s. The architecture of the building is brutalist-modernist, and has been criticised in a recent article in the Guardian as out-of-place for its surroundings. Half the magazine’s circulation (1.3 million) goes to Canada and the USA.

Unlike many weekly publications The Economist is doing very well. Profits are up and readership is expanding. If you want to know what’s happening read the Financial Times, if you want to know what’s really happening read The Economist.
