I drove along a straight road to another small town. Hardly anyone knows that hidden away in this town are some medieval weapons, last used in a vicious local cavalry skirmish. They are kept high up on a wall, in a dark corner, so that you would never guess they were there. A couple of them are still on the original poles. Such is the celebrity that used to surround these weapons that they were formerly paraded once a year at the town’s Horse Fair. But there is no Horse Fair any more and now the rusty blades hang in the darkness, waiting for the moment when they might be needed again.
