Newark

Labour did not lose at Newark.

UKIP did not lose at Newark.

The Conservatives won.

And they won through good old-fashioned constituency campaigning - full canvass, telling and get the vote out.

We shall gloss over the fact that they had to import MPs and Ministers of the Crown to stand in for the local association members who have dwindled away due to scandalous neglect (and worse, the idea that the leadership can get by without members on the ground).

We had also better not mention that the candidate was kept tied to a chair in a back room of the Conservative Club with his mouth taped up.
